What is PRP therapy?
PRP is the patient’s own platelet-rich plasma. It is used in traumatology to accelerate healing and reduce pain in joints and ligaments.
What disorders can be treated with PRP therapy?

- Chronic pain syndromes of the musculoskeletal system
How is PRP therapy performed?
One should not drink alcohol three days prior to the therapy. The procedure is performed on an empty stomach. 5 ml of blood is taken from the patient’s vein, then it is centrifuged for several minutes. As a result, one gets platelet rich plasma. Then this fresh plasma is injected by the doctor into the patient’s joints. The therapy is performed under local anesthesia, since it is not just an intramuscular injection, it is often necessary to penetrate deeper through the connective tissue. Depending on the severity of the disorder and pain, 2 to 7 procedures may be required.

Comparison with alternative procedures
Alternatives to PRP therapy:
- Administration of a corticosteroid hormone that reduces inflammation is symptomatic treatment. The pain subsides for a while, then the inflammation can resume. Compared to this method, PRP therapy slows down the degenerative process, i.e. it affects the cause of inflammation. Besides, PRP therapy has no side effects (this is because the patient’s own plasma is injected).
- A hyaluronate injection is as safe as PRP therapy. The study of 2015 found that PRP therapy could be slightly more effective.

My stay in the Euromed … is a good memory.We have been nicely welcome at the reception the day of my arrival (a Sunday!) and the fact that you work with Europ assistance or D.K.V. is very useful.The medical team was very professional, pleasant and always ready to help.The room and the bath were large, bright and clean.A bad point … ??? yes, of course … but a small one … the «каша» for the breakfast!???
