1999

Two general units of medical practice are opened under Euromed (Euromed Clinic since 2009) brand.

2000

An outpatient unit is opened.

2002

An inpatient unit is opened.

2003

Modern X-ray equipment is purchased.

2004

A functional diagnostics unit is opened.

2005

Euromed Occupational Medicine departmnet is opened.

2006

Euromed Kids is opened. It has become the first specialised children's clinic in St. Petersburg.

2008

A complex renovation is performed in Euromed Clinic, and the equipment is replaced.

2009

Euromed Express, ambulance and medical evacuation service is transfered to a new direction. Euromed Express.

2009

Euromed Group becomes a management company. The Group's companies are rebranded.

2010

Euromed In Vitro, a high-technology female clinic is opened. Euromed Express.

2012

A new project "Policy. Rural medicine" is launched in Leningrad region.

2013

A chain of polyclinics "Policy. District doctors" is opened in St. Petersburg. The first in Russia private-public partnership in the field of the primary health care.

2016

A surgery unit is opened in Euromed Clinic.

2018

The second children's clinic Euromed Kids with an extended dentistry unit is opened.

2020

An oncology unit is opened in Euromed Clinic.

Alexander Abdin founded Euromed Clinic in 1999. His remarkable personality combines the doctor's professionalism and the leader's talent. These qualities allowed Dr. Abdin to make Euromed one of the leading private healthcare facilities in St. Petersburg.

Dr. Alexander Abdin, the founder of Euromed Clinic, tells about the principles of Euromed's medical approach:

Euromed is a Western-type clinic. I do not mean to suggest that all Western-type things are equally well. However, there are only international healthcare standards and protocols, while there are no Russian ones. In 1999, we were among the first to work with foreign insurance companies and patients. Therefore, we had to meet international standards. Actually, Euromed's orientation westwards means two important things.

Firstly, we strictly adhere to the principles of evidence-based healthcare. And secondly, our internal medicine specialists consult their patients most of the time.

How does the traditional Russian healthcare system work?

The patient attends a general practitioner, and the GP refers them to other specialists. This is a vicious circle: the patient goes from one doctor to another, and each of them treat a particular issue according to their specialisation. Unfortunately, they do not use a systematic approach or take responsibility for the result. This happens despite the fact that all doctors learn the same information in their first year of the university — the body is a single system, and they must treat not a disease, but a person. In Euromed, a personal general practitioner with a diploma of an internal medicine specialist is assigned to each patient. Internal medicine specialists are distinguished by a wider specialisation and area of responsibility: they are able to solve up to 90% of the whole variety of medical issues within one admission. If a certain matter is outside of their competence, a general practitioner, having a clinical record and information about the patient's current state of health, involves highly specialised doctors and personally controls treatment process and efficacy. Surely there are not many doctors with such a wide medical outlook. They have to take account of many details that require special attention and skills. These qualities determine the high value of their mental labour.

A good doctors are guided by their own professional experience and intuition, or, like they say, "they think clinically".

But that makes up only the half of their expertise. Without modern and scientifically based evidence, individual medical practices may be ineffective and unsafe. International practices of clinical research studies allowed us to gather, systematise and evaluate the efficiency of various methods of diagnosis and treatment. Based on these practices, we have set out and implemented these standards in Euromed — and have been successfully using them for more than 20 years.
